What a Free Website Audit Actually Finds (And Why Most Owners Are Surprised)

We offer a free website audit. No catch, no obligation, no sales sequence that follows you around the internet for six weeks afterward.

We do it because after running the same analysis on dozens of Birmingham-area business sites, the findings have become almost predictable. Different industries, different budgets, different agencies who built them. The same handful of problems, over and over.

Most owners are genuinely surprised by what comes back. Not because the issues are exotic, but because nobody ever told them these things were supposed to be there in the first place.

Here is what we find.

Finding One

The Site Has No Structured Data

This is the single most common finding, and it shows up on roughly nine out of ten sites we look at.

Schema markup is code that sits behind your website and tells machines what your business actually is. Your name, your address, your hours, your services, your prices, your reviews, your service area, who runs the business, and what each page is about.

Without it, Google has to guess. Worse, when somebody asks an AI assistant for a recommendation in your category, the AI has nothing clean to pull from and cites the competitor who made it easy instead.

Most site builders never add it. Most templates cannot add it properly. And no owner has ever once been told it was missing, because the person who built the site did not know either.

Finding Two

Everything Lives On One Page

A typical local business site has four pages. Home, About, Services, Contact.

The Services page lists eight things the business does, two sentences each.

Here is the problem. A single page cannot rank for eight different searches. Google needs a page per topic with real depth to understand that you are a serious answer to a specific question. Eight services crammed onto one page means you are competing weakly for all eight instead of winning any of them.

The businesses dominating local search in your category have a dedicated page for every service, every location they serve, and every major question a customer asks before they buy. That is not padding. That is how the machine decides who to show.

Finding Three

The Site Is Slow

Nearly every site we audit fails a mobile speed test, usually badly.

The causes are boring and consistent. Massive uncompressed images. A theme loading code for features the site does not use. Five plugins doing the work of one. A video background that costs three seconds of load time to look slightly nicer.

The cost is not boring. Most visitors abandon a page that takes more than a few seconds to load on mobile, and the majority of your traffic is on mobile. Google also uses speed as a ranking factor, so a slow site gets punished twice. Fewer people see it, and fewer of the people who see it stay.

A fast ugly site outperforms a slow beautiful one. Every time.

Finding Four

No Real Photography Of The Actual Business

Stock photos. Every time.

Smiling people in an office that is not your office. A handshake that never happened. A team that does not work for you.

Visitors recognize stock imagery instantly, even when they cannot consciously name why something feels off. What registers is that the business did not bother to show itself, which raises a quiet question about whether there is anything worth showing.

Real photography of your actual space, your actual team, and your actual finished work is one of the highest-impact upgrades available to almost any local business site, and it is the one owners defer the longest.

Finding Five

Google Business Profile Is Half Built

Not technically the website, but it comes up in every audit because it is frequently the single highest-leverage fix available.

Wrong primary category. Missing or stale hours. Three photos uploaded in 2021. No service list. No service area defined. Reviews unanswered. Posts never used.

For most local businesses, the Google Business Profile drives more discovery traffic than the website itself. Leaving it half configured while paying for ads is like buying a billboard and never turning on the lights.

Finding Six

Nothing Tells The Visitor What To Do Next

Someone lands on your site. They read a little. They are mildly interested.

Then nothing. No clear button. No obvious next step. A contact form buried at the bottom of a page they will never scroll to, or a phone number in eight point type in the footer.

Every page needs a single obvious action. Call. Book. Get a quote. Schedule the free consultation. One action, repeated, impossible to miss. Most sites we audit make the visitor work to figure out how to become a customer, and a meaningful share of them simply do not bother.

What Happens Next

The Audit Is Free. The Fix Is The Conversation.

We send you the findings in plain language with no jargon and no pressure. If you want to take that document to another developer, take it. If you want to fix half of it yourself, fix it. Genuinely.

Most owners read it and realize the site needs more than patching, because the issues are structural rather than cosmetic. That is usually when the conversation starts.

But the audit stands on its own either way. It costs you nothing and it tells you exactly where you are losing customers you never knew you were in front of.
